About Flat Baroque
Flat Baroque appeared in 1984 as
"Baroque" Records, a fail safe method for publishing Pouring
Rain songs on sound recordings, until the recalcitrant troubadour Utah Phillips,
in a conversation with denis at an upstate NY music festival, suggested
calling it 'Flat' Baroque Records. No one liked that idea, thinking it
a mixture of high mindedness with low finances, or extravagant arrangements
for simple songs, or a contradistinction in layered counterpoint? R&D, still hesitant to render a decision as to the marketing advantages of the new brand, sent a memo some time ago suggesting more study was necessary. In the meantime the temporarily amended name has dragged us into the next millennia!
